MYERSTREET

I aim to see.

When well-seen, street photography begs more questions than it answers. As an artifact of time, the photo is less a memory and more of a roadmap – and not even that. A point on the road. A marker. A single frame we can use to better navigate our understanding of the world and all its invisible sub plots. Street photography is very self conscious. Should we even be calling it street?

I enjoy the pursuit of this type of documentation, especially out on the cultural fringe. Another, longer aim of the work is to capture and preserve the local traditions of people whose image is typically shaped by either social media likes or a patronizing view of their relatively poor economic conditions. Peel that away, freeze the progression of time and savor the moment.
